Max Raid battles are a special battle type in which 4 Trainers take on a Dynamax Pokémon. These Pokémon have different Star Ratings, or difficulties, depending on what type of Pokémon you are facing. These battles, if won, will also reward you with plenty of loot as well as the opportunity to capture the Pokémon if you beat it. Losing the Max Raid battle happens if the battle has last 10 turns with no resolution, or if the Dynamax Pokémon faints 4 of the Trainer's Pokémon fighting it. Having a Pokémon faint is not the end of the fight though, if your's or an ally's Pokémon gets defeated they will be revived after a turn. While a Pokémon is fainted, you or your ally can cheer for the rest of the participants which can give the rest of the team's Pokémon stat boosts. While fighting, the Dynamax Pokémon can cause a shockwave that nullifies all status and stat changes that you and your allies have received. And also in raids of 3 Stars or higher, the Dynamax Pokémon will set up a at fixed intervals depending on remaining health and the number of shields on the barrier varies by Pokémon and Star level.
If your lucky you can find Shiny Pokémon, Gigantamax Pokémon, and Pokémon that have their Hidden abilities. The higher the star level, the higher the odds are of finding these.
