Mounting

From Pixelmon Wiki

There is an assortment of Pokémon who can be ridden. A Pokémon may only be ridden by its owner, while wild Pokémon cannot be ridden unless caught.

Interacting with a sent-out mountable Pokémon owned by the player will allow the player to ride the Pokémon. While riding a Pokémon, either sneaking or returning the Pokémon to its Poké Ball will cause the player to dismount. A saddle cannot be placed on a Pokémon and is not needed to ride the Pokémon. Turning is done with directional keys. Pokémon will always travel in a straight line in whatever direction they are facing; for this, a third-person view is helpful.

It is possible to engage in battle while riding a Pokémon, but the Pokémon will be dismounted when the battle begins.

The default speed of any given mount is based on the Pokémon's speed stat. An increase in the speed stat results in a faster mount.

There are three types of mounts: land mounts, water mounts, and flying mounts.

NOTE: If a Pokémon in the following lists is listed as a certain type of mount, all of its forms are also that type of mount unless mentioned otherwise. (i.e.: Absol is a land mount, so Mega Absol is a land mount. Giratina is a flying mount, so both of its forms are flying mounts.)

Land mounts

Land mounts are the most basic type of mountable Pokémon. They can jump, but they can also traverse one-block-high slopes without jumping. They can also go in water (including those weak to Water-type moves), although they have to be kept afloat with the jump button or else they will sink to the bottom, similar to navigating water on foot.

Water mounts

In water, water mounts will remain at a constant height above water without need to hold the jump button. The jump button can be pressed to make them descend underwater, where the player will receive no damage from drowning. While riding a water mount, underwater visibility is increased. If a Pokémon is a water mount but not a land mount, it will not be able to move on land.

Config settings

  • allow-riding: Allow players to ride Pokémon. If false, no Pokémon can be ridden.
  • riding-speed-multiplier: A multiplier for the mounting speed of Pokémon. Can be between 0 and 1, where 1 is the default mounting speed.
  • enable-point-to-steer: If enabled, this option causes a mounted Pokémon to be steered by moving the camera, matching the directional controls on foot. If disabled, mounted Pokémon are steered using the keybinds for moving left and right.
  • land-mount: If enabled, allows riding Pokémon mounts that do not have the ability to fly or surf.
  • require-h-m: Whether or not Fly or Surf must be known by a water or flying mounted Pokémon in order to mount it. Land mounts are unaffected by this setting.
  • flying-speed-limit: Sets the flying speed limit for a mounted Pokémon in the new flying system.

Trivia

Old Generation 1 Flight Mechanics

Up to version 8.4.3, the following config settings were available:

  • "allowRiding": If set to false, mounting Pokémon is disabled.
  • "needHMToRide": If set to true, either Fly or Surf must be known by a flying or water mount in order to ride it. Land mounts are unaffected by this setting.
  • "ridingSpeedMultiplier": A multiplier between 0 and 1 used to change the traveling speed of mounted Pokémon. 1 is the default traveling speed.
