球果能够在球果树上被发现，或者可以使用虫或草属性宝可梦对树叶使用材料来寻找。它们可以用来制作合成精灵球的必需材料——未成形的宝可梦球盖。要制作球盖，首先必需使用熔炉将球果烧制为熟球果。可以根据球的颜色图案在工作台上摆放一行熟球果来合成未成形的球盖。合成不同种类的未成形宝可梦球盖需要将不同颜色的熟球果按照球盖的颜色图案摆放来合成（例如，使用一个熟的红球果放在工作台任意一行的中央、两个熟的蓝球果分别置于该行的两侧，即可合成超级球球盖 - 未成形）。未成形的球盖可以使用铁砧 - 宝可梦与锤子制作其对应的宝可梦球盖。
