Pixelmon Safari Games is a Pixelmon minigame that combines the capturing and battling aspects of Pixelmon. The minigame may be played on certain servers.

Overview

Note: The following information uses the default settings for Safari Games. Server owners are able to modify several aspects of the minigame if they choose to.

Pixelmon Safari Games has four main phases: the pre-game phase, the safari phase, the team preparation phase, and the tournament phase. In the pre-game phase, players pick starter Pokémon and wait for the game to start. During the safari phase, players explore worlds enclosed in glass spheres in order to find and capture Pokémon. For the team preparation phase, players have a short while to arrange their teams for the upcoming phase. In the tournament phase, players then use the Pokémon they captured during the safari phase to battle with other players in a single-elimination tournament, with the winner of the tournament also winning the minigame.

During the entirety of the minigame, players are set to Adventure mode, meaning that they cannot break or place blocks and cannot spawn in external items or Pokémon.

Pre-game phase

When entering the server, players each choose one of the standard fifteen starter Pokémon, although these Pokémon will start at level 25 rather than level 5, and then enter the lobby area to wait for the next round to begin. The Pokémon will be fainted while in the lobby to prevent it from being sent out; it will be fully healed once the game starts.

While waiting in the lobby, a timer is active (having started at five minutes at the end of the previous game). When this timer expires, a Safari Games round will begin with the players in the lobby, with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 32 players. If there are not enough players in the lobby when the timer runs out, the timer will restart and no round will begin.

Safari phase

Once a Safari Games round begins, players are sent to a room with several PCs, healers, trade machines, which can be used throughout the safari phase. Players are also each given some items:

The Safari Games world is split into several separate glass spheres, each containing a specific biome or collection of biomes. It is impossible to travel between these spheres on foot; the "/biome biome" command must be used instead, which allows travel to any biome or the starting room (known as "PokéCenter"). A list of biomes can be shown by typing "/biome " and then pressing the Tab key.

All Pokémon that are set to spawn in the biome will spawn with equal rarity except for Legendary Pokémon, which spawn very rarely (1/15000 chance). This includes Pokémon that normally do not spawn naturally (e.g., many evolved Pokémon). All Pokémon (including Legendary Pokémon) have a level range of 2-49, potentially allowing Pokémon that evolve by level to be obtained earlier than their normal evolution levels. No message appears when a Legendary Pokémon spawns. Catching Pokémon outside of battle is disabled; they must be engaged in battle in order to attempt capture.

Players can freely exchange items with each other during the game if they choose to, allowing other evolutionary items to be obtained if another player is willing to give them. Boss Pokémon spawn at their usual rate and their drops are not altered from normal Pixelmon, making them the only way to obtain TMs and held items (besides Razor Claws and Razor Fangs, which may also be obtained randomly at the beginning of the game).

If a player disconnects from the server during the safari phase, rejoining the server will allow the player to immediately rejoin the game without detrimental side effects (except lost time). If a player dies due to environmental damage such as lava or drowning, the respawn point is the PokéCenter.

The safari phase lasts 40 minutes. Once this timer ends, all players are teleported back to the PokéCenter and the team preparation phase begins.

Team preparation phase

The team preparation phase is a five minute phase where players prepare their teams for battle. As it is not possible to return to the biomes to catch more Pokémon and all players are assembled, this phase is an optimal time to trade items and Pokémon, teach TMs to Pokémon, access the PC, and figure out which Pokémon to bring into the upcoming tournament phase

Tournament phase

In the tournament phase, players are randomly paired up to battle with each other in a single-elimination tournament, meaning that a single loss will eliminate a player from the tournament. After every wave of battles, all Pokémon are healed fully. The winners of the previous battle will be matched up with each other. Those eliminated can either battle other eliminated players for fun or watch other battles. The victor of the tournament is the winner of the round of Safari Games.
