The Pokédex is a feature that contains a list of all Pokémon that the player has captured and a brief description of each Pokémon. It also displays height, weight, Pokédex number, and an image of the Pokémon that have been registered. It can be accessed by pressing a certain key ('I' by default) while looking at a Pokémon, either wild or Trainer-owned. Pressing 'I' on a previously unseen wild Pokémon will cause its data to be recorded to the Pokédex. Alternatively, a Pokémon can be obtained (by capture, evolution, trading, etc.) to register its data without having to physically send it out and press 'I' on it.
If in Creative mode, the Pokédex lists all Pokémon up to Generation 5, even those that have not been implemented yet.
