Magikarp is a [[Water]]-type Pokémon found in most bodies of water. It [[evolves]] into [[Gyarados]] at level 20.

Although Magikarp is capable of surviving in even the most polluted ponds, it is usually overlooked by trainers because it is pathetically weak; even in the heat of battle it will do nothing but flop around. It is not a strong swimmer, and currents in the water will sweep it downstream. They are normally seen using [[Splash]] to leap out of the water, which is strange, as it makes them easy targets to predators such as [[Pidgeot]]. Before the species multiplied, it is believed that the ancestors of Magikarp were actually much stronger than the Magikarp seen today, and this belief has led scientists to research this species. Magikarp shares little resemblance to its evolution.

Magikarp is a Water-type Pokémon that evolves into Gyarados starting at level 20.

Magikarp is a pathetic excuse for a Pokémon that is only capable of flopping and splashing. This behavior prompted scientists to undertake research into it.

Magikarp has a special texture called Roasted Magikarp, a paler "roasted" color and crosses for eyes to convey death. To obtain this version of Magikarp, it will need to be struck by lightning or fished out of Lava. If the Roasted Magikarp is evolved, the resulting Gyarados will have a special texture called Zombie Gyarados. Shiny Magikarp is unable to have this skin nor evolve into Zombie Gyarados.

Magikarp also has special textures from the Magikarp Jump! mobile game. More info on obtaining them can be found on the page linked above. These magikarp evolve into the normal textured Gyarados so it’s advised you keep them as Magikarp.
