Before you start modeling, I suggest to look at some beginner modeling tutorials on youtube for the program you will be using, this will help you get a better grasp on the program and/or polish what you already know. Then there are some guides that may or may not assist you with your troubles.

If you want to learn how to model using Blender, or how to better your models, don't ever be afraid to ask!
