#211356 I waited to suggest this because I didn't know if 1.16.5 would incorporate this, but since Pixelmon 9.0.0 does not include lava mounts, I will make the suggestion. The Pixelmon Team has admitted to wishing to merge with and incorporate vanilla features more, if I understand correctly. Since the Nether Update for vanilla Minecraft introduced striders, who can ride on top of the lava, I think some Pokemon should gain a similar feature. It would certainly let us all enjoy the second coming of the Nether update more.

Groudon and Hisuian Arcanine have both been shown walking through lava unharmed in different Pokemon media. Magmar and Charizard have been shown to be inside lava without being harmed in a Pokemon episode. And in Pixelmon's Nether, multiple Fire-type Pokemon like Slugma and Turtonator are shown to be floating on the lava, so why not take it a step further and let players ride some Fire-type Pokemon on lava? Since diving into lava like how water mounts dive into water is probably realistically a bad idea from the player's standpoint, lava mounts will ride on top of the lava like striders, except they will be faster than striders.

Possibly any Fire-type mount as well as Groudon will qualify to become a lava mount, but I felt the following Pokemon should definitely gain the ability to carry the player across lava (there's also Magcargo and Torkoal, but they might be too small to carry a player realistically):
  • Heatran
  • Magmar
  • Magmortar
  • Hisuian Arcanine
  • Volcanion
  • Groudon
  • Camerupt
  • Entei
  • Typhlosion
  • Turtonator

While they aren't as high priority as the Pokemon in the above list, maybe Kantonian Ninetales, Kantonian Rapidash, Kantonian Arcanine, Blaziken, Flareon, Houndoom, Infernape, Emboar, Unovan Darmanitan, Delphox, Pyroar, Torracat, Incineroar, Salazzle, Blacephalon, Cinderace, Centiskorch, Skeledirge, and Coalossal will become lava mounts too. Charizard, Kantonian Moltres, Volcarona, Reshiram, and Chandelure are already flying mounts, but I thought maybe they would be unable to sink in lava while mounted, making them both flying mounts and lava mounts.

I'd love to see lava mounts in a future version of Pixelmon. :-D

#211359 I could see a this added and although i dont get how you could make them walk ontop rather than swim it'd be a really convienent feature allows easier travel in the hard to fly carverns of the nether

also if you use a seperate link (like i did on my post) you can show off pics

#211361 If that is the case, here are the six Imgur screenshots from version 8.4.2 where Hisuian Arcanine is pretending to be a lava mount. These pictures were taken by using the /freeze command, so that Arcanine does not sink into the lava once mounted. I also decided to take a quick bonus screenshot showing the same concept in Pixelmon 9.0.0.

Proof of concept Screenshots:

As for the walking on top thing OshawottSam, I was thinking that the mounts would just do what striders do, but with faster movement speed, without fungus on a stick, and where you have to hold 'w' or whatever the forward key is to go forward. Controls are mostly the same as land mounts, but you are riding a Pokemon on the surface of lava. Mounting a lava mount might give the player temporary fire immunity to make it user friendly, but I still think lava mounts should be on the surface of the lava. You can't really see further than the block right in your face when under lava anyway.

Lava mounts will be very useful. They will let you get to that Shiny Fire-type swimming in the lava ocean in the Nether. They will let you get to that Max Raid Den structure that is on its own generated island in the Nether's lava ocean. It is even good for just traversing the vanilla nether biomes and BYG nether biomes and enjoying the scenery.

Of all the features I have suggested, this might be one of the features I want the most.

#211418 it makes perfect sense honestly

the nether lava oceans are a pain in vanillia gameplay due to striders being slow and elytra flight being a no go

and there also a pain in pixelmon cause flying mons like to clip into things

add in a new form of travel that mirrors a 1.16 feature

#211419 Yes! Especially since striders get replaced it would be really nice to have an alternative that can help with nether exploration that isn't a flying pokémon. Hope it gets added!

#211467 The team can probably go off of the code for strider mechanics, just changing it up a bit so that the player has control over whether their lava mount is walking or standing still. Basically, giving them the same controls as land mounts.

If the Pixelmon Team wants to know where to start with lava mounts, I say start with Magmar, Hisuian Arcanine, Heatran, and Groudon. Magmar was shown rising out of the lava in the episode where Ash battles Blaine, the frenzied Hisuian Arcanine was shown walking on lava shortly before the player battles it in PLA, Heatran I just saw recommended a lot, and Groudon is shown walking in lava a lot in the anime. You'd need to make Groudon immune to lava in the process, and you'd need to give mounting stats to Magmar.

Once you finish Magmar, Hisuian Arcanine, Heatran, and Groudon, I recommend moving down to the rest of the Pokemon in the bulleted list, then incorporating some of the Pokemon in the paragraph below the bulleted list.
