HD Trainer model - [Updated]

Before anything I would like it to be known that this model is going to be released with the MIT license!

So after taking into account the feelings on smooth vs. hard edges I've decided to make two versions. Right now they are the very basic base of the trainer. So that improvements to the scale/proportions/complexity can be figured out first.

Please leave any and all criticism with clear details! This way I can interpret what you are seeing needs changing. Pictures with annotations help a lot too!

Well in my opinion this would be nice if we were making our own game and all characters looked "hd"
But not in minecraft.

I have no problem with new obj models for trainers, they will be smoothed an animted anyway so won't look "minecrafty" (but that is an ongoing argument against the modelling team). As for this specific model if you quarter to half the number of faces it should be getting to the correct poly count for our models. The hands need quite allot of work to make them look correct, kinda look like talons at the moment. Also I think you do need to make it look pokemon esk so funky hair, slightly out of proportion body etc.

chances are they'll get turned down because I have no plans on the trainers taking a different direction. If we were making our own game that would be fine, but smoothed normals on pokemon alone is already pushing the limit about imo

What you guys don't like the claw hands?
I do plan to completely redesign this for pixelmon and to look more in line with the minecraft style. But right now we are using models from techne still. Which to me is a bit sad. Let me make this into a correctly stylized model SPG, then pass judgement on the direction please.

I really don't get why smoother models would be an issue. At this juncture in Pixelmon's development it feels like a moot point? Modellers are pumping out amazing pokemon for the game why not have some continuity in the mod with the trainers?

because in my eyes there is a point when too much is too far. Smoothing to me was too far and it shouldn't even be in the mod, it was an accident to start with. Trainers like this is stepping over that bar in my eyes to the point where it really would beg the question "why aren't we just making our own game" so with trainers what you deem sad with techne, I deem ok (well, im not to found of them either, but thats because they have weird proportions and I couldn't be bothered to force someone to make new ones)

I respect your vision for the mod, but isn't your personal feeling on the matter shutting down progress. I kind of agree with you about smooth shading now that we have had it for a while. But there is nothing that's been done that can't be fixed in some way. I'll recreate this really quickly in two styles. One very blocky and the other more cartooned.

Depends on how you view progress, its more of wanting a different style then wanting to shove a steak in trainers. They've always been iffy in the mod for a number of reasons. I always thought they'd look most fitting with a Minecraft player and accessories that are modeled (hats belts blah blah blah) you can take that with a grain of salt though because I don't even know how well that will look. Never spoke up about it because trainers have always been on the back burner

Just a quick note on adding things that float with other models, it's a pain to get them to animate with the movements of the other model. You can make them child objects of that main one but it still turns out funny.

I'm actually with SPG on this one. As much as we want this to be PokeMMO, there is still Minecraft. I feel trainers should be Steves, not mutants, which is what anything else would be compare to the user.
